Semi-friendsed journal Nov. 8th, 2015 @ 03:30 am
After five years I got paranoid about who would read this. After six I decided paranoid was the right word. From now on I'll post a good number of things friends-only, but also public when it suits me. This probably means the silly reaches the public, the stuff I feel more comfortable about not posting to the world will be friends-only.

If you like the insanity you see the more in-depth part, add me and drop me a line. I don't at all mind, I just want to know who reads this, really. (and I don't check my friends list status often, so I'll notice you faster if you poke)

I always found Zelenka's muttering comforting somehow. I just found out he occasionally breaks the fourth wall, along the lines of "Jesus, I can't work with these actors". Hee :)

I find it interesting how TV show torture methods often involve wearing someone down with metal.

What happens when the relevant agency doesn't have enough taste to pick something noisy enough? What happens when you hit a fan? I mean, I'm not typical, and I suppose I do have my melodic-like tastes, but um, I may just find something to like regardless.

But I may just be comfortably stubborn right now. Always been fairly good at that.
Music: Downfall of Gaia - Zerfall

Finally watched Into Darkness.

I'd have to agree with both Susan and Justin here.
In context of Star Trek, meh.
If you ignore the details of Star Trek canon and like it for itself, it's pretty fun.
And that is how I tend to treat movies that can be fun, so there :)

Axolotls are awesome.

They regenerate almost anything.

Also, they look neat.

I may have recently converted someone to Doctor Who.
I'm pretty sure she'll love it.
Here's hoping :)

I recently spent ten hours painting (edit: Walls. White). The music I played was mostly Florence and The Machine, Aphex Twin, and Asylum Street Spankers. Is that a weird mix? I honestly cannot tell.

Frell has been ingrained in my cursing for a long while now. I am both amused by that, and saddened by the lack of recognition.

I recently found out that my two sisters and I share about the same favourite color. The more you know.
It still amuses me how we feed back into each other. Doesn't happen more than twice a decade, and all. Fun, though. Also, my niece is sort of awesomely sharp.

Every now and then I have the thought "...yeah, but I have good taste in bad taste."
I'm pretty sure I believe it too.

The Opheliac companion is nice to listen to.
With casual listening to her music you notice she's good at what she does, but the details, the pre-production tracks, little intricate details and reasons that can barely hear or only imagine, it's neat.
Also, the dorky diva thing is entertaining.

Vecchio may be my favourite character on Homeland.

I mean, well written's one thing, but overly well written characters, awesome as they can be by accident, tend not to be overly human.

Note to self: To most people, explaining that you would start to spell Narnia with Narn is not helpful. Dork.

My mind just went from Simon Amstell to Simon Travaglia. To me, this makes sense.

Right bastards.

Sooooo... Who else has used the hair coloring liquid left in the bottle after your hair's full to pretend they're a Trill?

Though I ought to use a brush, this is much too coarse.

Mad Men. I have no idea where it's going, or whether it's planning to, but I enjoy it being pretty well written.

One of my most common curses over the last two years or so would be "...writers. Oy."

I'm generally neutral about covers -- but is it me, or is this cover of Creep very, make-you-appreciate-the-original-better good?

There's two new servers here I had to set up. I named them callisto and echo. I'm a dork. Can you guess why?:)

Bwah, Fringe is doing the 47 thing.

Minchin without eyeshadow. Weird.

I like how Foamy is still active.

Did I never notice that Emilie Autumn's last name is Liddell? I must have. Apparently no relation. That would have been just a little too much :)

May. 30th, 2012 @ 09:18 pm
There's currently someone in our back yard doing the aerial silk thing, and someone with an accordion.

Alrighty then:)

I really like series that you can watch more than once.

Doctor Who does that well. I think I'm ready for Torchwood again.
I want to see how much I still love Derevko. Lexx is pushing it, but I'm trying :)

...also series that make me like them despite themselves. I'm not gonna name 'em. Offhand.

Van Knolraap en Lof, Schorseneren en Prei naar Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme.

Ik denk dat ik honger heb.

Robotech? Did I notice that before? I probably did.

Which completely randomly reminds me of noticing Esthero in a gym scene The Zero Effect and being all weirded out that they apparently existed the same decade.

What separates soup from tea? Huh? Huh?

Tango is a little bit my new breakbeat. In that it's a non-basic rhythm that draws attention, and there's some good stuff to be found there.

(okay, breakbeat is probably still 4/4. Shush.)

I want a Tim Minchin / Nodame crossover. A lot. That is all.
Music: Harlequin Jones - Gutter Tango (And Tim Minchin - Dark Side)

The uni coffee machine produced light brown water. So I made peppermint cofftea.
It is at these times that I wonder whether it's that the idea is good, or my tastebuds or brain not so picky.

I just saw a white spot on the floor, so I petted it. Turns out it was indeed a cat. Good stuff.

Britney's Toxic now always reminds me of Doctor Who.
It was a guilty pleasure anyway, which probably helps me think its use in that episode was sort of hilarious.

It's not unlike how She Blinded Me With Science always reminds me of this AMV. Ah, Washu.

Which also reminds me that I need to catch up on My Drunk Kitchen. But that wouldn't feel right before first downing a glass or two of wine.
Music: Britney Spears - Toxic

(I'm a bit behind, bear with me) Jul. 13th, 2011 @ 01:42 am
Yup. Still love Doctor Who. Two cute moments in one episode. One of them felt a bit indecent. Awesome.

Jul. 5th, 2011 @ 02:05 am
My mind just made a connection between Dax and the Doctor.

Hee.

Which also re-highlights my wish for the doctor to regenerate female. I'm hoping it'll happen, because that would be an awesome can of worms. It's probably not really time yet, if it'll be canon at all, but it's damn entertaining in thought.

Went to a Katzenjammer concert. They were better than I expected - love it when that happens.

Just found an old MP3 player with music I liked years back. It's fun seeing your old taste, sort of like seeing your relatively-recent answer to things. They still resonate, but you also get a new perspective on your own thoughts because you can't really remember why you thought or liked them.
Music: Freezepop - Boys On Film

The doodling ones are awesome.

This is the sort of stuff that makes me bright-eyed and twitchy and inquisitive. And, in this case, very amused.

I have certainly grown to love Doctor Who. It's wobbly-set sci fi in many ways but glorious in some of the the details. I think I sort of love the writers.

Heh. I don't think I've taken this *short* taking to a new Doctor either :P

Oh, and *chuckle* - so I do like Dollhouse.

Whedon's "let's see what shit we can get away with" has its ups and downs - I don't think he always really controls what he's created, but it does entertain. Sure there's some cheap shortcuts, but there are also some bits well played.
And I do love a halfway decent mindfuck.

Also, the geek courtship? Pricelessly cute.

I think I like Emilie Autumn for much the same reason I love Garbage. It also helps that she isn't even pretending like her image is barely more than that, it's refreshing.

Tim Minchin - If I Didn't Have You makes my geeky heart happy. Particularly the bell curve bit makes me giggle, and of course it feels just a bit more honest than all the codependent, quote collecting songs out there -- although for that I should probably mention You Grew On Me.

And I enjoy finding neat things that I've somehow always missed before. It adjusts my a priori towards finding more. Bit of a relief for my more cynical side and all that.
It helps that the guy's twisted, I can always appreciate that:)

The back yard pond briefly attracted ducks. The amusing part was the mass of dorks trodding outside and gaping.

Cool. I didn't expect Evelyn Evelyn to be as good as it is. The jolly demo songs we've heard before don't tell you it'll try to tear your heart out just a bit.
